The Rainbow Nook is hiring a second Knitting Instructor!

At The Rainbow Nook, creativity and community building are at the heart of our organization. As part of our vision to develop a more expansive fiber arts community in Boston, we are seeking an additional part-time staff member to plan and facilitate our knitting lessons. 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching varied levels of knitting to adult students 
  • Assisting students with pattern reading, existing project troubleshooting, and best practices 
  • Running a knitting circle that meets on a regular basis to develop community and skill sharing
  • Teaching teens interested in knitting who have advanced past basics
  • Preparing materials necessary for teaching in advance of classes
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 
  • Demonstrated engagement, sensitivity, and experience working with people of all ages and abilities
  • Position may involve prolonged periods of sitting and lifting of up to 25 lbs
  • Other duties as requested

Qualifications & Experience Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • Experience in knitting and teaching (can include informal/volunteer positions or lessons for friends)
  • Demonstrated mastery of knitting basics and experience making a variety of projects preferred 

Schedule:
Part Time – 1-8 hours/week, depending on # of classes booked, weekend shifts, which could include Thursdays-Sundays, 11am-7pm. Most classes are scheduled individually based on what works best for you and the student(s). 
Salary Range: $18-$22 per hour
This position does not offer health insurance at this time. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to budgets, qualifications, experience, education, longevity, specialty and training.
