This class is intended to be a jumping-off point for all other knitting classes. If you’re totally new to knitting and want to start with the basics, this is the place! You will learn the two foundation stitches - knits and purls - upon which all other techniques are built.
We will also practice casting on (“starting” a piece of fabric) and binding off (“finishing” a piece of fabric). We will learn these skills through starting your choice of rectangle: a gauge swatch, dish cloth, or scarf, in either stockinette or garter stitch. We will end the class with providing support for each student in choosing their next project. The instructor can help you pick a pattern or materials from the Rainbow Nook’s inventory, discuss sizing/fit/gauge, or generally answer any questions you have as you move towards your next knit. This class meets once for a 90-minute session, during which students will start their project, likely to be finished at home. The materials list will be emailed to you following registration.
