Hello, fiber friends!
Another cold winter month has come and gone, and, as spring peeks over the horizon,
I’m struggling to believe we are already in the third month of the year! We’ve had a productive winter at The Rainbow Nook, and, as always, are so delighted to have shared the cold, dark season in the company of all of you!
As we transition into warmer, sunnier days, we invite you to help us decorate our space! TRN’s lovely owner, Rain, has started a community art project to beautify the support beam tree in the middle of our storefront! Come on in and pick up a scrap of yarn and a zine to learn how to make puff flowers, then bring your completed project back to be displayed! We are excited to create with our community!
Speaking of creating with our community – Rain and I (Sami, hi :p) have decided to spearhead an ambitious (but DESPERATELY needed) project for the JP artist community! JP Artist Alley is a very early concept of a community art collective to take the place of Boomerangs on Centre Street! We’re planning a terrifyingly large-scale project to house and foster the JP art community, including expanding our offerings to various types of classes and supplies that span as many art medias as we can manage, creating a rotating teen spotlight gallery, and a storefront for local artists to sell their products year-round! That’s a very short sentence for a very large concept. If you’re interested in learning more or helping us make this space a reality, please check out https://therainbownook.com/pages/future-jp-art-collective for a detailed breakdown!
In the mean-time, check out some of our new class offerings:
Also, we are so excited to announce our new collaboration with Shean King! Shean is a local drag artist who is spicing up our fiber arts practice with new, more in depth garment construction and costuming classes! With 17 years of garment construction and costuming experience Shean is here to help you turn your dream costume into reality! Click here for his March class offerings! (You will absolutely see me there <3)
Finally, what kind of fiber arts store would we be if we didn’t support our local cosplayers? Saturday, March 28th, we will be holding an Anime Boston Con Crunch event from 5pm to 10pm at the Rainbow Nook! We will be implementing a “pay what you can” model and inviting local cosplayers to use our sewing machines and our space to finish up whatever got left to the last minute for AB! Keep an eye on our website (and local flyers) for more info, but I’m definitely going to be opening up my Crunchy Roll account to anime suggestions during the event 🎉
Alrighty, fiber friends, as always, thank you so so so much for all your wonderful support. We really could not do this without the incredible tide of artists who rise our boats! Thank you thank you thank you!
